LC Elementary School Bullying Prevention Resources

Bullying is:

  • Harmful, hurtful or humiliating words or actions
  • Intentional
  • Repeated
  • And the person targeted feels they have less social or physical power

Bullying can happen to anyone. Bullying can happen at school, in the community, or online.

What LCES Does to Create a Positive School Climate

  • Developing relationships with students
    • Title 1 paras work with students in the classroom, at recess, lunch and in other common areas
    • Supervision after school, recess that focuses on problem-solving
    • Student Service – Bobcat Ambassadors, Book Buddies, Mentor opportunities, Cafeteria Helper, Recycling Helper, Bobcat Tours for New Students.
  • Programs
    • Counselor classroom lessons
      • Character Crossroad (Purposeful People Curriculum – connects to Middle School initiative with Olweus) – monthly lessons on character traits, resilience, problem solving
      • Start with Hello, Every Step (Bullying Prevention), Upstander, and other supplemental lessons
    • Character Trait Assemblies: Monthly with the entire learning community in attendance to celebrate students.
    • Unity Day, The Great Kindness Challenge
    • Consistent Schoolwide Expectations: PAWSPractice Respect, Accept Responsibility, Work Together, Safe Choices
    • Bobcat Motto is used as an umbrella expectation: “As a Bobcat Learner, I show respect to myself, others, and things.”
  • Relaxation Station (proactive behavior support) and the Bobcat Den as a location to provide preventative behavioral support.
  • Monthly character traits and recognition of “students of the month”
  • Small-group counseling
  • Weekly school-wide MTSS team meetings with administrators, counselors, school psychologist, Student Success Teacher, and the Bobcat Den assistant.
  • Weekly school-wide meeting with administrators and counselors 
  • Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) – monthly individual grade-level meetings on whole child concerns (grade-level teachers, Special Education teacher, psychologist, counselor, Title 1 Coordinator)
  • Climate surveys – From counselors and administration (students/staff)
  • Education (parents/community)
    • “Math Night” for families to come experience a typical math lesson and understand general concepts.

Trauma-Informed/ACES

Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) system in place to create consistency in student expectations schoolwide and prevent negative behaviors. – School wide incentive program,  – Classroom incentive programs  – Behavior Fairs to teach expectations to all students    – Professional development for staff to successfully support students behaviors.
