School Board Meeting Information
All meetings of the La Center School Board are held in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act. Under certain conditions, as defined in statute, executive sessions of the board are authorized. Executive Sessions are not open to the public. While all board meetings are held in public, they are not meetings of the public. At each regular board meeting or special meeting where action will be taken, the public can participate following the procedure below:
The board values public input as long as it is given in a spirit of congeniality with the intent of clarification or helpful suggestion, and with the understanding that the board needs to maintain an orderly meeting where the business of the district is accomplished.
Board meeting agendas are published on the district website (www.lacenterschools.org) no later than 24 hours prior and are typically provided much earlier (i.e., the Friday before a Tuesday meeting is common).
If you wish to comment on an agenda item or a non-agenda item at the board meeting, contact Tammy Lichliter at the district office at 360-263-2131, prior to 4:00 p.m., on the day of the meeting to be included on the list. Members of the public are asked to provide their name, telephone number, indicate whether they are a resident of the district, and the topic they would like to address.
The board asks that comments be limited to 2 minutes to the person that signed up. It is up to the board chair to reduce the time if there are many people signed up to speak. Your comments will be listened to, but most likely will not be discussed or acted upon at the meeting. If public input goes beyond 20 minutes, the board chair reserves the right to table public input until the end of the meeting to accomplish district business.
Outside of Board meetings, public input is also available by email and/or phone calls. Contact information for Board members is posted above.
In an effort to keep an orderly meeting and efficiently accomplish the business of the Board, during board deliberations, the Board Chair reserves the right to call on District staff for additional information or clarification.
