The La Center Chess Open tournament is coming up in 2 weeks!
When: Saturday, February 18, 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Where: La Center Middle School Cafeteria
Who: Any 5th-12th grade La Center student who knows how to play chess and wants to try an official tournament, or anyone who has already played in an official tournament that wants to play in more. There will be many beginner/ novice players so this is a great first tournament for new players and some advanced players, so something for all.
Cost: FREE! Normally, rated tournaments cost $20-$30 per student to participate, but I want more students in La Center to play chess. This tournament is great prep for anyone thinking about joining the high school chess team (also, keep in mind, if you’re in middle school, you can come to our high school practices, just email me).
Format: 5 Round Swiss- everyone plays all 5 rounds, win or lose, most points after 5 rounds determines final standings. Win= 1 point, Draw= .5 point, Loss= 0 points. Matches will be timed and NWSRS Rated.
Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Medals for +Scores (Anyone with 3 or more points).
There will be pizza, parents are welcome to come and watch, and players are welcome to bring their own food.
15 players are currently signed up. We can probably handle 50 and if 40-50 do sign up, we can break the group into 2 sections, advanced and novice.
