This is just a reminder about the La Center Chess Open Saturday, February 24th from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the La Center High School library.

It’s a 5 round Swiss tournament and everyone plays all 5 rounds. Games are 30 minutes/ side with a 5 second delay. USCF rules in effect (will explain before the start of the tournament) and free pizza for all participants. The matches are rated and this is a great introduction tournament for any one interested in competitive chess.

The tournament is open to any and all 5th – 12th grade students, regardless of experience and is free! Typically, tournament directors charge $25/ player, but, I enjoy hosting this tournament every year to give our local students an opportunity to try out a competitive chess tournament using official USCF rules. There’s room for 10-15 more players still and the tournament is one week from this Saturday.

To register, just email timm.distefano@lacenterschools.org the player first and last name and grade level and make sure to show up at 7:30am in the high school library February 24th.
