Congratulations to Greg Hall, the latest La Center teacher to achieve ‘National Board Certified Teacher’ designation. This puts him into the elite rank of teachers who have achieved this prestigious status. Additional congratulations to Lynette Cooke who renewed her ‘National Board Certified Teacher’ status this year.
A few facts about National Board Certification:
The certification process takes between one and five years.
Candidates complete 4 components that are reviewed by trained teachers in their certificate areas.
The assessments include four portfolio entries that feature teaching practice and six constructed response exercises that assess content knowledge.
The estimated time commitment is between 200 to 400 hours to complete the certification process.
Certification is not a guarantee; the national certification rate hovers around 40 percent from year to year. Less than 5,000 teachers in the nation currently hold national certification status.
