Shae Whelchel’s 6th Grade Language Arts class recently finished the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, a historical fiction story chronicling the true plight of Sadako Sasaki, a twelve-year-old girl who died from cancer caused by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.  After finishing the inspirational story, the students got to work writing nearly 100 holiday letters of hope and good wishes to the children receiving treatment at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals.  This is a great example of the way La Center students are not only working to improve themselves, but the lives of those less fortunate as well.
